5 At Home Skin Care Tips

Olive Oil

Olive oil is rich in healthy monounsaturated fats and antioxidants that can benefit the skin in many ways. It has has the ability to sooth dry skin on areas all over the body.

  • Dab a small amount of olive oil under your everyday moisturizer.
  • 30 minutes before you shower, rub olive oil on hands, legs or any other areas you may have dry skin and lightly massage. Rinse off in the shower and then apply your usually moisturizer.
  • For a natural facial scrub, mix 2 tablespoons olive oil, 4 tablespoons brown sugar and 1 tablespoon honey. Gently rub this scrub on dry areas in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes. Shower and apply moisturizer.


Milk is believed to have powerful anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that can reduce dry, itchy skin. It’s also said that lactic acid in milk may exfoliate dead skin cells while also improving the bodies ability to retain moisturizer. In addition, it may also lighten skin complexion.

  • Soak a small washcloth in cold milk then put in on dry skin areas for 5-7 minutes. Gently rinse the milk off with an additional warm washcloth. This will help your natural moisturizers stay on the skin. Do this everyday for extra dry skin.
  • You can also mix a few drops of rose water with 4 tablespoons of milk to relieve dry or itchy skin. Rub the mixture all over your body, leave for 10 minutes and then wash your body with a cold washcloth. Continue to do this a few times a week or until symptoms get better.

Aloe Vera

Aloe very has a very soothing effect to the skin as well as antiseptic and anti-fungal properties that help prevent flaky, dry or irritated skin. Aloe vera naturally moisturizer the skin and creates a protective layer to keep the skin fresh, clear and clean.

  • Simply slice open an aloe vera leaf and apply the gel directly to your skin and let sit for at least 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and apply a few times a week.
  • Aloe vera can also be used as a natural remedy for harsh sunburns and acne. Again, just slice open a leave and apply to affected areas.


Honey is one of the most well-known natural home remedies that benefits the body inside out. It has powerful healing, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that have long been used around the world. Plus, it is loaded with essential vitamins and minerals.

  • For a natural facial moisturizer, apply honey directly to the skin, leave on for about 10 minutes and rinse with cold water.
  • Apply honey all over the body before a shower for about 5-10 minutes. Apply everyday to improve overall skin health and to stay moisturized.
  • Mix together equal parts honey, olive oil and beeswax. Melt the beeswax  over low heat on the stove, remove from heat and mix in with the honey then olive oil and apply to affected areas of the body. This will help natural moisturize the skin and fill it with nutrients. Apply every other day or as often as necessary.
  • To prevent and reduce acne, apply honey directly to the skin and rinse with cold water.

Coconut Oil 

Coconut oil is loaded with health benefits and skin benefits that can treat a variety of skin disorders. It’s high amounts of fatty acids help naturally replace any lost moisturizer. Coconut oil has a variety of uses and benefits, here are a few of them for the skin:

  • Apply coconut oil all over the body as a natural moisturizer
  • Use as a natural facial moisturizer.
  • Use as a natural conditioner.
  • Make-up remover.
  • Soothes dry hands and other dry areas on the body.
