According to a study published in the journal Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism, people who eat a lot of blueberries have a lower risk of developing metabolic syndrome. A Professor of clinical nutrition, defines metabolic syndrome as “a group of risk factors characterized by obesity, hypertension, inflammation, dyslipidemia, glucose intolerance and insulin resistance, and endothelial dysfunction.”

This study suggest that consuming wild blueberries into your diet long-term may help improve symptoms that are related to metabolic syndrome such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Blueberries Promote Heart Health

Regularly eating blueberries is a tasty and fabulous way to keep your heart healthy.

A study gathered 93,600 women from the School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School where they found that women who ate little blueberries and strawberries had a significantly higher risk of suffering from a heart attack. Those who regularly ate a lot of blueberries had a 34% less chance of suffering from a heart attack compared to the women who did not eat them. Dr. Eric Rimm stated that “The people with heart benefits had three or more servings of a half a cup of blueberries or strawberries each week.”

Blueberries reduce risk of getting diabetes

Other researchers have found that “two blueberry smoothies a day helped improve insulin sensitivity in obese, insulin-resistant people — the kind of folks at high risk of developing diabetes.”
