Suffering from a sore throat is a painful ailment, that often leaves you very uncomfortable. Depending on the severity of a sore throat you may have a difficult time talking, eating, drinking, and even swallowing your own saliva. From over the counter meds to at-home remedies, there is a number of ways to alleviate a sore throat. You can also use essential oils to alleviate these symptoms. Save yourself a trip to the supermarket, and try these essential oils.

1. Peppermint Oil: Peppermint oil is known for providing a cooling effect on the body, which may also reduce pain in the throat. It is rich in antioxidants and antimicrobials that also help alleviate a sore throat. Add peppermint oil to a warm cup of water or tea for an easy sore throat remedy.

2. Lemon Oil: Rich in vitamin C, lemon essential oil fights infection and improves immune health. The strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties work to prevent and relieve sore throat pain. Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to a glass of water or tea to keep the throat moist and promote faster healing.

3. Thyme Essential Oil: Thyme is a popular oil, loved for its anti-fungal, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties. Mix a few drops of the oil with your favorite carrier oil and apply it the neck area. This will promote healing and soothe the pain.

4. Clove Oil:  Clove oil is also known for having strong antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties that help lower inflammation and pain in the throat. Add 2-3 drops of clove oil to your bath or sip on some clove oil in your tea.

5. Eucalyptus Oil: Eucalyptus oil helps strengthen the immune system, which protects the body from infection, including sore throats. It can be rubbed onto the chest or inhaled. This helps reduce mucus and relieve sore throat symptoms.

6. Oregano Oil: With strong anti-bacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties, oregano oil may effectively help relieve a sore throat. Add a few drops of oregano oil to a warm glass of water and gargle. Repeat this remedy 3-4 times daily.

7. Lavender Essential Oil: One of our favorites on the list, lavenders antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic traits may also positively effect a sore throat. You can inhale, ingest, or topically apply lavender for relief. For quick relief, rinse with lavender 2-3 times a day until symptoms lesson.
