Lavender – The most common type of headache is called a tension headache, and is oftentimes cause by stress. Tension headaches cause a dull pain on both sides of the head.  Lavender and Peppermint work best for this type of headache, especially when used together.  Lavender oil has a relaxing and calming effect when inhaled or used topically. Just place a few drops in an essential oil diffuser or boiling water for inhaling.  To use on the skin, rub lavender oil diluted with a carrier oil directly on the forehead or back of the neck. Be careful to keep the oil away from your mouth and eyes, as it can be toxic if ingested.

Eucalyptus – Eucalyptus oil is an anti-inflammatory that has a calming effect and can rid of mental fatigue and physical pain. Eucalyptus oil is not meant to be used internally, so keep away from mouth and eyes.  Eucalyptus oil is especially great for reducing pain associated with sinus headaches.  To get relief from a sinus headache, add a couple of drops of this oil to an essential oil diffuser, bath or sauna.  Another way to reduce sinus headache pain, is by applying the diluted eucalyptus essential oil to the chest, forehead, and back of the neck.

Peppermint – Peppermint essential oil contains a good amount of menthol, which can provide relief from congestion, colds, pain, and tension headaches. It can also be used to treat indigestion and respiratory problems.  Peppermint can be rubbed into the back of the neck, forehead, and chest for relief from headache.
