Now that the holiday parties are over, it’s time to regain energy and focus on our health. Don’t beat yourself up if you’ve added a few extra pounds this last year, instead set aside five days to help heal your digestive system and overall health. Below are 9 simple steps to resetting your digestive system.

1. Start your morning with lemon water –

Lemon water is an easy detox, that’s also easy on the digestive system. It helps stimulate liver function and promotes digestion. Drink lemon water each morning for best results.

2. Try a mini fast –

Eat an early dinner, finishing up by at least 7 p.m. or earlier. This will give your body plenty of time to fast and cleanse in betwen meals, about 12-14 hours to be exact. This will also give your digestive system a small break while also cleansing the liver, boosting immunity and lowering inflammation in the body.

3. Practice self-care –

Now that the holidays are over and we have a little more time to ourselves, it’s time to practice more self-care. Treat yourself to a massage, join a yoga class, take more baths and practice aromatherapy.

4. Drink tea –

Try sipping on herbal tea early in the morning or at night when you’re winding down. Consider a soothing ginger or dandelion tea, as these ingredients also support digestion and flush out toxins.

5. Eat more fiber –

Fiber is needed for an overall healthy digestive system. Eating foods rich in fiber naturally promotes digestion health and regular bowel movements. Regular bowel movements not only maintain overall health but also flush out lingering and built up toxins in the colon.

6. Avoid sugar, alcohol, red meat, processed foods, and bread –

You don’t have to give them up forever, but you will be surprised what a week can do for your health. These foods are common causes of inflammation in the body and often lead to a backed up digestive system among many other health ailments.

7. Exercise regularly –

We should all be exercising regularly. Not only does it maintain muscle mass, energy levels, overall health and mental clarity, but it also stimulates digestion. Whether it’s light yoga, a brisk walk through the park or an intense cardio workout, your digestive system will benefit.

8. Cook from home –

There are a lot of hidden ingredients and calories in premade meals. Eating at home gives you the option of knowing exactly what you’re putting in your body, though it also gives you control over portion sizes. Cooking from home is also an excellent way to bond with loved ones and a fun hobby.

9. Meditate –

Meditate regularly to cleanse both the mind and body. This exercise also helps curb food cravings and promotes a more in-tune feeling with the body, which can encourage healthier eating habits. Opt for at least 10-2o minutes each day!
