Fenugreek is an essential herb and legume throughout South America, India, Europe and Mediterranean. It has long been used for it’s powerful medicinal properties and is now considered an effective supplement.

It’s various uses make this superfood even more valuable for culinary and healing properties. It has several effects on overall health and well being, as it contains many essential nutrients.  Below are some of the various studies done on the benefits of fenugreek.

Health Benefits of Fenugreek:

Appetite Control Properties – Three different studies have shown that fenugreek seeds may significantly reduce appetite and fat intake. One study reveled a reduce of appetite and fat intake by 17 percent.

Another study gathered 18 healthy, obese participants who consumed 8 grams of fenugreek fiber, which “significantly increased satiety and reduced energy intake at lunch”.

Relieves Inflammation – Certain animal studies have shown that fenugreek seeds may lower inflammation. Though more research is still needed, these seeds were found to potentially lower inflammation and may act as a natural pain killer.

Lowers Cholesterol and triglyceride levels – According to research, patients with coronary artery disease and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, had decreased blood lipids and blood sugar levels after consuming fenugreek seeds.

Heartburn Relief – Another study gathered certain participants with different degrees of heart, and found that fenugreek seeds offered some relief. The effects were similar to an over-the-counter antacid medication.

Cancer Prevention – According to studies, fenugreek seeds have shown to inhibit gene expression in lung cancer cells.

Improves Digestion – Fenugreek seeds have many benefits for digestion. According to studies, the water-soluble fiber can help relieve constipation, upset stomach and inflammation of the stomach as well as many other digestion related issues and illnesses.
